How We Work

At Semanhyiya American School, we provide a safe and nurturing environment for learning. With class sizes no larger than 40 and one teacher and two aides per classroom, we have the ability to give our students the individual attention required to make sure no student is left behind. Our emphasis is on hands on learning and helping our children equate what they learn in the classroom to the world outside.  Small groups are used for reading and math, allowing our teachers to use a more personalized curriculum to meet each individual student’s needs. Our educational materials are of the highest quality and are mostly shipped from the United States. Schools in Ghana use rote memorization as their main teaching method. Because we are bringing a new way of learning to this area, all of our materials and supplies must be brought from abroad.  We also place a strong emphasis on technology, ensuring our students acquire the skills they will need to succeed.  Above all,  we use only positive discipline methods at SAS. We do not allow the harsh methods of discipline used in the majority of schools in Ghana to be used on our campus. Children can only learn when they are unafraid and surrounded by caring and supportive adults. At SAS, we treat every student like they are family.
